Ka'anche House

Casa Ka'anche is located in the town of Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, within a housing development whose main feature is a central urban garden that articulates and gives identity to the complex. This landscape element informs both the layout and the architectural design of the home, which seeks to establish a direct and ongoing relationship with this green element.

The concept stems from the intention of creating an architecture that connects visually and functionally with its immediate surroundings. The house takes its name from the Mayan Ka Anche, meaning "raised bed where plants are planted," and is inspired by the idea of an elevated volume that separates itself from the natural terrain, allowing for the creation of intermediate spaces where planters, vegetation, and natural ventilation are integrated, thus forming a large, habitable "Ka Anche." This formal strategy is embodied in an upper volume that appears to float over an open ground floor, creating a sense of lightness and continuity with the landscape.
